I am back too. But I’m no longer in South Africa, I’m on my way to
CHINA!

China is in Asia which is a different continent!

I’m very excited but I’m also looking forward to it! I don’t know yet,
what I will do there but I want to see EVERYTHING!!!!

When Leo came back from the farm he went to school again. Here he helped us with our maths exercises! Maths is very difficult, but Leo is very clever!

The students in South Africa wear school uniforms and Leo really liked that! But there is something else that he liked much: The students go to church every day – it is very important for them. And as all students go there you sometimes have to stand in line for quite a long time.

Leo also tried typical South African food. He really liked it! But he also liked the BBQ (=barbecue) which he already knew from Germany )! The date which the camera shows is not correct of course!

Leo also ate pap which is a typical South African meal. It is a porridge made from mielie-meal and it is a traditional meal of the Bantu. We talked about the Bantu in one of your geography lessons, do you remember? (the Afrikaans word pap is taken from Dutch and simply means “porridge”)

Biltong is a kind of cured (geräuchert) meat that originated in South Africa. Many different types of meat are used to produce it, ranging from beef through game meats (Wildfleisch) to fillets of ostrich (Vogel Strauß). It is typically made from raw fillets of meat cut into strips.

Leo also went on the Rugby tour to Zastron.

He was the mascot and got back very late on Tuesday night! So he was happy! Veery happy!!!

He also talked to the rugby coaches about the different strategies and tactics, have a look:

Leo also visited a lion farm. The lions are semi- wild, but he had a lovely time feeding the little cubs! He really enjoyed spending some time with his relatives. And maybe he fell in love with one of the female lions?!?

But Leo not only visited his relatives, the lions, but he also said hi to some leopards and even to tigers! They were all very friendly although Leo was quite scared in the beginning!

Leo really enjoyed hi s time in South Africa and he said that he would like to stay forever…
Maybe he will be able to return with one of us?!

Here in South Africa everyone supports the South African team of course. It is called “bafana bafana”. But the students also support all the other teams, which is very nice! We had a lot of fun when we took these photos!

I even was able to say hi to the principal. That was great! He is very friendly and he even stroked my back for some minutes! I like him!

After my great time in Kenya I wanted to stay in Africa for some weeks! And there is one country which is very important at the moment! Many people from many different countries meet here and they all like the same type of sport: SOCCER!

Yes, I am in South Africa! Have a look, where this is:

I’m very nervous, because the German team wants to win the soccer world cup! But the South African team is really cool – they are always having fun and they have played well so far!

Many people are dancing in the streets and you can see flags of different countries everywhere!

But now everthing is fine and you can have a look at the photos! They can’t show you,however, how I liked it here – photos can’t show that! Everyone was very kind and I was treated with much respect. All children seemed to like me at once – and I immediately liked them!

These were the students of the Primary School in Timau. They meet every Wednesday before school starts and they are wearing school uniform! Would you like that?

Here you can see some of my friends together with two German women – don’t they look a bit pale???

Some of us are wearing jackets, so you can see that it is not always hot here in Africa!

In the morning my friends picked me up and brought me to school. I always was in their classroom. Do you know how many students they have in one class? Between 70 and 80 – WOW!!!

I also spent some hours with the school’s headmaster! He was nice, but I think he can be very strict.

Here in Kenya they hit students who misbehave with a stick… I didn’t like that!

I haven’t seen a lion so far, but I saw another cool animal! I talked to a “Columbus”-monkey! He is called “Mombugo” and he has funny ears! When I talked to him I could look at the place from above,have a look!

Here you can see that I didn’t have to walk – I always found somebody who carried me around in a rucksack!

I also saw Mt. Kenya! It is a very high mountain – much higher than the German “Zugspitze”. WOW….

The people here even tried to teach me some traditional dances – but I was too clumsy… They told me many things about their culture which was very interesting! I was a bit afraid first but then I realized that everyone was really really friendly! I simply had a great time!

This time I had a looooooooooooooong journey… Puh! All the people were complaining about a strange ash cloud ?? Do you know, what they were talking about? Now I’m in a country, where I really feel at home! I think I have even seen some animals which I know from former times!!!

I’m no longer in South America! Now I’m on a different continent: I’m in Africa! The country is called “Kenya”.

Great view, isn’t it? Nice beach, great waves, cool water … PERFECT!

People here are so nice! I want to stay here!!!

The sun was so warm that I even needed sunglasses. Luckily I have got a hat! If I had no hat, I would have been sun-struck!

It was so warm that I needed a cool drink. Here they offer non alcoholic drinks, too. But I didn’t have a glass – I drank directly from a coconut! COOOOL!

Do you remember, where I am? Right, I am in Brazil and I’m having a great time here. Have a look at me, here I am with my new friends who showed me around.

I was very lucky that I met these kids, because after the great journey I was veeery tired and…. HUNGRY. Have a look at the photo. It shows how one of my new friends fed me.

After I felt strong again, I was ready to go to school. The first man I met was the principal. He was very nice and he stroked my belly.

Here at school I learned that my friends have a lot of friends all over the world. They showed me on the map, where their friends come from. And now they have got friends in Germany, too. My friends also have great school shirts, haven’t they?

And my friends showed me many other places, where they spend their time. In the pictures you can see a playground and a swimming pool for example. Don’t forget: He have got summer here! YIPPIEH!

From my house I had a great view. I could see the Statue of Christ!!!! That was simply great. I sometimes looked out of the window for hours…

And now I want to show you some more pictures, which are showing that I’m having a great time here. I went bathing with my friends and here is the proof.

And yes, it was dangerous! Luckily the woman held me and I was safe from the waterfalls. I was a bit afraid, but I was very careful… But I won’t tell you, what happened… This I’m going to tell you in my next “letter” in a few days.

But as I said: I’m veeeery tired now! I will tell you more in a few days, because I have to sleep first!

On Halloween, he get dressed up like a witch and made a pumpkin to put in the window and on Bonfire Night – the 5th of November – he watched a  fire work display. He really like the sparklers but didn’t want to hold one in case his whiskers caught on fire!

Whilst in school he was very busy doing Science experiments.

He also went to help out at the LRC, checking books out, and climbing plants!

He was also very keen to have his photograph taken with William Shakespeare himself!

Leo visited the scultpures that some year 9 pupils help create last year and really like them.

He also bought a poppy and remembered all those who had died in wars and those who were fighting in wars at the moment during our Minute’s Silence on Remembrance Day – the 11th November

He also enjoyed helping out on reception answering the telephone and greeting visitors to the school.

I finally arrived in Great Britain! A few minutes ago I saw the weather forecast for Germany… and: We have higher temperatures here! Lalalaaaaaaaaa! Poor Germans!

First he visited St Josephs Girls school, the children had decorated it with green and gold flags.

They were celebrating winning the Sam Maguire cup in the All Ireland Football Final. He then visited the Daniel O Connell Memorial Park.

Daniel O Connell was a famous person who campaigned for equal rights for the Irish people, he was born in Caherciveen many years ago.

Leon got a little hungry with all his exploring so he had some Irish Stew and later ate another famous Irish dish…bacon and cabbage. Leon will now continue on his travels but has asked if I can show you some photos of the lovely places he visited here in Co Kerry. Watch out for them very soon!!!!. Finally, while Leon was here he learned some of the Irish language.

He asked me to say to all his followers “Failte” which means welcome and as he leaves these shores for The U.K. he says to you “Slan” which means goodbye.

It is great here.
